About Our Farms

WesPak began as a group of family farmers, and those core values continue to drive our company. We maintain our farms in a manner that is environmentally sustainable, while ensuring the fruit we bring to market is the same high-quality fruit we give our closest friends and family. To keep this commitment, we tailor all of our farming practices so our sweet, juicy fruit tastes as good as it looks.

The process begins with our selection of varieties. We constantly evaluate new, state-of-the-art varieties and consult weekly with fruit tree nurseries to identify future varieties as additions to our program. Before selection, each variety is evaluated for its flavor, appearance, texture and size. WesPak fruit is always at the forefront of sweetness.

Another WesPak distinction is our commitment to environmental stewardship. It shows in every aspect of our operation, from tree selection to harvest, packing to transportation. Nothing goes to waste at WesPak. Our rejected fruit is mixed with compost and put back into our orchards as a nutrient. We utilize wood chipping rather than burning, and use the chips for ground cover. We irrigate with micro-sprinklers to ensure no water is wasted. We use an Integrated Pest Management system and “softer” materials whenever possible to keep our fruit blemish-free. And we also strive to keep our orchard floors free from harmful insects and other fruit-damaging organisms, resulting in the use of fewer pesticides.

Our harvest practices are also tailored to ensure the highest quality fruit. We evaluate our orchards daily to maximize the sugar content of our fruit, while keeping firmness high enough to maintain its integrity through the harvest and packing processes. Sometimes this means picking gently into small totes out in the field. Other times this means picking only in the morning when the fruit is still crisp from the cool night. The fruit, rather than convenience, determines our harvest techniques.
